1. FYI:
Good afternoon Shipmates,
The Coast Guard Auxiliary has been and continues to be one of the Coast
Guard's greatest assets. It is no secret that our people's positive and
can-do attitude has made our Coast Guard Auxiliary a great organization.
In order to maintain this status, we all need to work together on
keeping this outfit on track. We must allow our core values (Honor, Respect
and Devotion to Duty) to guide our actions at all times.
As an organization composed of many people with different back grounds
and different mentalities, we are not exempt from working alongside those
who decide to get off track and guide their actions by a different set of
rules. Those who deviate from Local and COMDT Policy.
As a former Executive Petty Officer and Officer in Charge in the Boat
Forces community, I am a strong believer of giving our people the proper
training before sending them out as life savers. What is proper training? Is
it the way we think it should be? Is it the way I read it? Is it signing a
task for a friend that is not fully up on the task? No. The training process
for our Crewmembers and Coxswains comes from COMDT Instruction; there should
be no deviation. Do not take short cuts.
I task all members in the process of getting qualified or re-cert
Crew/Coxswain to be fully prepared before requesting tasks to be signed off.
Do not put your shipmates in an uncomfortable position. And I task all QEs
with staying on track with the process; you are being trusted with shaping
the future of our organization. Successful handling of SAR cases are the
product of your High standards. Let's train our folks to be ready to answer
the call, to save lives and property at sea, and to maintain the level of
professionalism expected of those of us who serve in uniform. Thank you.
Vr,
CWO2 Manny Zambrana
