SUBJ: Uniforms and Appearance -029/05
1. To ALL Hands - but especially to elected leadership -
In keeping with the true spirit of an organization of volunteers, the
possession and wear of the Auxiliary uniform by Auxiliarists should be a
matter of personal pride.
2. It is a privilege!!! Treat it as such. When in uniform, the
Auxiuliarist is a representative of DHS, the Coast Guard, the Coast Guard
Auxiliary, and of our great nation!! Appearance, uniform fit and grooming
shall reflect the pride of that representation.
3. Please - all members should review Auxiliary Manual Chapter 10, and
specifically, Section C - Standards (10-9). Sections C.1 through C.3 need to
be reviewed closely.
4. DDO-MS has tasked ALL PS personnel with performing a review with
their members at all levels and giving a presentation on proper uniform and
grooming at their respective meetings (Flotilla, Division).
A. As an example of things I have noticed recently - Section
C.3.n refers to "Hair/Facial" - mens hair is to be neat and clean, not to
touch the collar.
B. Handlebar mustaches or other eccentric styles are not
appropriate while in uniform.
C. Women's hair should not be below the collar or extend below
the eyebrows when the hat is removed.
D. NO PIRATES!!
5. Elected Officers especially, but ALL members in general, have a duty
to correct uniform standards that are not being upheld - on the spot. Please
do so with class - it serves no one to rip into a fellow member in public.
Exercise good leadership and coach, don't scold.
6. Our membership needs to KEEP looking sharp. The general public views
the AUX as the Coast Guard. Help your fellow shipmates, all officers should
set the example.
7. Look Sharp!
8. The purpose of this list is to keep Auxiliarists in the First
Southern abreast of current developments, policies, manuals, etc.
9. Internet Release and Distribution is Authorized.
